Below, a list of software tools that will be used during school. It is recommended install them before the school starts
If you are interested in working with Herschel data during the COSPAR 2018 Infrared Astronomy School then download and install the Herschel Interactive Processing Environment (HIPE). An installer for different platforms (Linux, Windows, macosx) is available at the Herschel Science Center web:
https://www.cosmos.esa.int/web/herschel/hipe-download
Please read at least the Quick Start Guide and the HIPE Owner's Guide documents in order to have some familiarity with the software.
We strongly encourage you to register to the Herschel helpdesk and use it for raising any questions related with Herschel products or software:
GILDAS installation, this is the website:
https://www.iram.fr/IRAMFR/GILDAS/
The students should be able to follow the instructions in the download area. The instructions are pretty straightforward and written for the three most common OS (Linux, MAC, and Windows). One important point to stress out is that among all the necessary dependences for GILDAS, it is important to have Python (2.7 or later) installed, otherwise some relevant functionalities won't work.
To download and install CASA:
https://casa.nrao.edu/casa_obtaining_new.shtml
There is the normal CASA version and another including the pipeline. The first one (indicated by CASA only in the table) should be enough for the school purposes.
MOPEX and SPICE – downloadable from:
http://irsa.ipac.caltech.edu/data/SPITZER/docs/dataanalysistools/tools/
These are the most important ones – although there are other software tools there which could be interesting depending on the analysis interests.
