Modeling a propulsion system for the trajectory correction of weather balloons.
abstract
We present a mathematical framework that helps in the design of an electric propulsión system that uses propellers to correct weather balloon trajectories. It uses mathematical models to determine performance curves that can be used to study the most efficient trajectory correction strategy. Our models aim at using the main factors that contribute to the trajectory of weather balloons and their correction. This proposed framework works in the following manner: (1) modeling the forces that the propulsion system needs to overcome, (2) modeling the propulsion system parameters, (3) optimizing the propulsion control variables and parameters to best fit the power required, and (4) simulating the corrected trajectory. The example presented in this paper uses a proposed propulsion system to shown the logical flow of the framework. Further study with multiple propulsion systems is necessary to find the most optimal solution..
